Bedtime Story

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

Dear Olive,
I'm writing this letter for me, because I never want to forget how cute this is. For a while now, you've had me tell you stories at bedtime. At first, it was the same story, over and over tell me a story about when I'm a big girl and I fly on the plane all by myself to coffs harbour. The story sees you flying up there, staying with my family, and going horse riding with your cousin. I can't begin to imagine how to describe with justice the way you wear the delight and excitement of the story on your face, fists clenched in the air, the energy of the emotion practically bursting out of you. You interject with questions and does the plane have enough petrol and find it impossible to remain seated. Slowly, we moved on to different stories. Some requests more complicated than others. Tell me a story about a horse. Tell me a story about a horse and a magpie. Tell me a story about flying to the moon with martian*. But last night, we reached new emotional heights. The story was about a surprise birthday party for you. You were DEVASTATED when everyone forgot your birthday, close to tears, but you were overjoyed at the surprise part of the story. And when I got to the bit about you getting to the end of the pass the parcel and finding ... a baby rabbit, you just couldn't contain it any longer. You screamed, and screamed, and screamed. It was honestly the Cutest Thing Ever, and I'm writing it here so I will always remember it. And smile.
*Martian. Deserves a whole letter of her own, really, but in a nutshell, she's your imaginary friend. She's been around for a while, but she's here every single day now. She's from the moon, you know, and she requires doors (house and car) opened for her, food, and introductions to people like a normal person.

Love this memory Kel. I think recording moments like this has to be the absolute best use for blogging.

What an imagination Olive has and what a wonderful thing that is.

Love all your posts this week. Alabama shakes - my kind of music indeed.

Happy Weekend!

That's gold! Poor rabbit though – being subject to pass the parcel ;)

I love her imagination so much. The stories, the martian, even little Juani. xx
