Looking Back

Monday, October 18, 2010

Dear Olive,

This week is going to be all about looking back on the year that was. Your birthday is looming fast and I simply can't believe that next Sunday you are going to be one. One! It's happened so fast.  There have been times in the past year that have been really tough for me. The tiredness and the low that came with it, and the big, nasty impact this had on my relationship with your Dadda. But you know what? In the past month or two, there's been a shift. A shift in the way I'm feeling. Even after a terrible night (and the past few weeks have mostly been not great), I feel happy the next day. Something has lifted me up above the fog and I can feel the sun on my face again. It's funny but it's only in recognising how good I feel now, that I've been able to see how not good I had been feeling. But I'm back! And it feels wonderful. It's had an amazing impact on your Dadda and I too. Life is so good when you're happy.

(Looking back to ... our little family, 7 days new, at your Uncle Hayes and Aunty Sarah's wedding.)

I think you should know that despite not feeling yourself for so long, you have done the most tremendous job as a mother, Kel.

What a gorgeous family photo. Imagine how different it will look on Sunday!
