Home Work

Thursday, June 21, 2012

Dear Olive,
We've been driving each other crazy this week. I've been doing a lot of work from home, which I don't normally do, and we're both finding it very testing. Me, because I'm desperately trying to break away from a never ending game of pet shop/pretending we're characters from a tv show/playing schools/jumping on the bed, so I can focus my attention on something that's not you. And you, because I'm desperately trying to break away from a never ending game of pet shop/pretending we're characters from a tv show/playing schools/jumping on the bed, so I can focus my attention on something that's not you. I'm only half here, and I'm only half there, and I'm finding it next to impossible to just be one or the other. Mindfulness, right? But you're trying to get my attention by getting into all my work and whinging, I get annoyed with you, you get more whiney, I more annoyed ... and so on and so on. Until the bell goes and we're each crying and rocking in separate corners. Ok, so it hasn't quite come to the rocking in the corners part (yet), but massive ups to all the people who manage to work from home successfully. Because it's pretty hard.
(I know it's been blogged to death, but these photos are from a recent trip to Koskela. It's amazing! Kitchen by Mike is so.goddamn.good. I would not have been able to eat my pumpkin/goats cheese/rocket sandwich standing up. And there is a whole kids section in the showroom that is basically a massive playroom. So it makes the whole experience pretty relaxing, you know, for a shop.)

hmm, yep... I hear ya. It's a bit like that at our place too. I'm supposed to do a day's work from home but it hardly. ever. happens. I don't know how others do it. Despite her driving you crazy, she is cute as.

Lots of credit to you I can barely manage to shower let alone work.
There needs to be some sort of parents working from home support group where kids play at each others houses while you work.

I take my hat off to any parent who works from home, I think I would find it far too distracting!

I honestly have no idea how people do it. If I try and even send an email my toddler will scramble on to my lap and start bashing the keyboard.

Hope next week is a bit easier for you both!

I tried it for a short time and didn't enjoy it at all. For me it was ok in the early days as O was napping twice a day but when that stopped it was all over. Good luck. And that place looks fab. x

I work from home with 2 kids - a 4 yr old {who goes to Kindy 2 days/week} and a 9 month old baby.
Most days it's bloody hard!
So I be a 'full time stay at home mum' and then work at night! Kills me, but is also easier in some ways. Next year, I return to an actual work place 2 days / week. As emotional as that thought is for me....I know it's what's best for us all.....and my sanity haa!
