The End of the Beginning?

Dear Olive,

I think my breasts might be woo'ing you back. And why wouldn't they? They're full of creamy warm fresh delicious milk (although I cannot confirm this from personal experience). On the advice from another ABA counsellor and my sister (who happens to be one of your fave people in the whole world and somewhat of a breastfeeding guru), I stopped giving you milk from the bottle. It was hard, I knew you wanted it but it wasn't going to harm you to miss a feed or two over a couple of days. We're not out of the woods yet but you've had three good breastfeeds today. There is still no explanation for the bites and today you've had a few test bites to which I've given you no reaction. We're both trying to overcome our fears. Hopefully we'll get there together. (Did I really say yesterday that I'd welcome back the biting? Um, I lied.)

On an aside, I'd like to say thank you to everyone who sent me messages of support and sympathy. Yes, perhaps I overreacted slightly yesterday (hey I never said I wasn't emotional!), but I knew I'd be ok in the end, whatever happened. I just needed some time (and to let my sadness out) to get my head around what was possibly happening. If I've learnt anything I can rely on as a parent, it's that you can't rely on anything.

Hey Kellie, I am ok, thank you for the sweet message. Just reading back through your posts it seems you're having a tough time. I really hope it all works out, it's so hard when they do things not according to plan. I hope you're back to feeding again soon. Anna xx

When Lily got the first signs of her first tooth, she started biting down while breast feeding. she even made me bleed once. i found that lightly pinching her nose and asking her not to bite me actually worked! she is now 10 months old, has 4 teeth on top, 2 on the bottom, still breast feeds before sleeping and does not bite me at all!

Hi Kellie, your recent posts about breatfeeding have really had me thinking and feeling nostalgic. I stopped breastfeeding my little L. two months ago and there are many moments when I regret it, and wished I had continued longer. But I never really had enough milk so L. was not putting on enough weight. I cried the first time I gave him formula. Of course, it wasn't bad for him but I was so convinced I was going to breastfeed 100% from the day he was born until at least 6 months old. Breastfeeding my son was the most amazing feeling in the world. I'm glad to read in your more recent post that your bub is now breastfeeding again, yay! xx
