Birthday Party

Dear Olive,

I've written and re-written this letter a number of times. So many things to tell you about, so many ways to say it. First up, I've been really emotional all weekend. Thinking back so much to when you were born and what this meant. I just can't believe you're one! I don't know how to properly type this feeling out in words but I love you to bursting point. I'm starting to see that I'm going to be one of those Teary Mums who annoyingly cries at every happy thing. I'll apologise for that now, it's bound to embarrass you down the track. Secondly, your party was a smashing success! The weather tried to rain on our parade but you know what? The scout hall worked brilliantly and was, in fact, possibly even better than the park would have been. I'm still on a high from all the fun and love. All your friends and family were there - the Melbourne connection of Nanna, Aunty Bry and Uncle Greg even came up which was amazing. With regret, your Pappa had told me last week that he wasn't going to be able to get away from work to come to the party. But guess who woke up Sunday morning, decided they couldn't possibly miss your party for the world, drove to Sydney and knocked on our door at lunchtime? Why Pappa and Robyn of course! It meant the world to me that they were there. (I cried when they arrived, of course, being a Teary Mum.) Thirdly, the decorations and the cake turned out really well. You didn't even try to take your party hat off and when I pulled it off towards the end of the party you had me put it back on. Happy birthday to my most lovely and most amazing baby girl. I love you.

(Cake bunting idea stolen from somewhere on this blog. Which was stolen from this etsy shop.)

Happy tears are the best! Don't be embarrassed, they just mean you're feeling with your whole body and that is a lovely thing x

What a sweet letter. She will love reading this blog when she is old enough. Happy belated birthday to your dearest Olive!

(and Kellie, I think I may have referred to your baby girl as "he" in previous comments. That's my franglais brain, confusing English and French. Olive is a boy's name in France but my grandma was called Olive so I should have known better! Pardonne-moi!)
