Dear Olive,
I've been telling you lately about your middle name and where it came from and tonight I asked you if you'd like to see some photos of Rose. It's still sad for me to look at photos of my Mum, even though it's been eight years. The two of us snuggled up in our pyjamas on the bed together and went through my photo box. You were fascinated and after every photo asked for more. I miss your grandma Rose I told you. Miss Rose Mummy, you said back to me. I know you don't really understand, but at the same time it seemed like you did. Just for a moment.
PS The rain eased this afternoon and with it, our cabin fever, so relieved we were finally able to get out for a walk.
PPS Remember Madeleine our friend who gave us the vintage coats? She's also to thank for this beanie. What a score!

and I just read your heartfelt post that accompanies the cute pics. Beautiful to remember with your little lady. She is lucky you can speak about such love and pain. It's a blessing.

It's so nice (and important I think) that you're talking to Olive about your Mum. For both of you. Eight years is not a long time when you're grieving - I imagine looking at photos of your Mum will be sad for many more years to come. It's only natural.

Perhaps kids understand a lot more than we give them credit for... I think it's often only their inability to fully articulate themselves that leads us to think they don't understand. I think they pick up on and make relatively good sense of our emotions... I'm sure Olive sensed the meaning of your conversation on some level.

....Oh, and that beanie seems so your style (from what I've picked up on from your blog). Score indeed!

I'm so sorry Kellie. I just read all your posts about your mum and she sounded like a truly amazing woman and mother. A cool, quirky character with a beautiful soul. I love that Olive has her name and that you tell her all about Grandma Rose. xxx
