On The Wall

Friday, March 15, 2013

Dear Olive,
In between some furniture, we made the sweetest/cheekiest discovery. It's such a masterpiece I don't want to wash it off.

PS I moved your room around. I'll send our resident set decorator in to pretty it up and post some photos once he's done.

The Thing About Beds

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

Dear Olive,
In our house we have three people and two beds. This is your bed. And this is mine and Shanes. Oh wait, is that one yours and mine, and the other one Shanes? Or the other way round? You see, I want to sleep next to Shane. Shane wants to sleep next to you. And you want to sleep next to me. Can anyone see the fatal error in this equation?
PS Your walls are not bare. Your bed is just very low.

Dear Olive,
In part inspired by this lady, but mostly just to show off your smashing new hot air balloon (Made by Mosey strikes again!), here are some photos of your room - the good corner anyway. It would be unforgivingly misleading of me to photograph your room without a shot of Pepper, she's always nestled in there somewhere. (And is not as mean as she looks. Although quite possibly as aloof.) I probably should confess that it's pretty much all your clever Dads decorating handiwork (the bad lighting all mine!).

Dear Olive,
We are winners! Winners of this cutest crocheted cushion from this gorgeous lady. Thanks Emily for such an unreal giveaway, I can't wait til the little beauty arrives. It lifted my spirits after a rather trying weekend that saw our upstairs neighbour flood his bathroom. Which, in turn, blew out all our power. No lights. No hot water. No heating. We got heating and hot water back, still waiting on lights and the plumbers are here ripping out our bathroom ceiling and replacing all the pipes, which have apparently rusted through in our lovely old building. It seems there are some advantages to renting after all. Not having to foot this bill is certainly one of them.

Dear Olive,
Quite a few lovely things have recently found their way into our home.
1. Dinner plate. Couldn't afford the whole set so just bought one. Perfect for all those times I'm dining solo.
2. Cushion.
3. A couple of these map letters. No idea what to do with them or where to put them yet.
4. Globe lamp Shane found at Vinnies.
5. Tony Mott photo of your Dads old band. (He's the handsome one second from the right.)
Not only that, but it's a long weekend. What lucky ducks we are.

It's a Century!

Thursday, February 24, 2011

Dear Olive,

This is my 100th letter to you. I do hope you've enjoyed them. It's certainly been a rewarding - almost therapeutic - outlet for me and I've loved getting to meet other Mums and bloggers too. Anyway, I had so much fun with the red that I thought I'd show you some more colour from around the house. I know I'm not the greatest photographer but indulge me a little here, it's meant to be a celebration!

Red Red

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

Dear Olive,

Reading this post this morning on one of my fave blogs made me realise you've got a bit of a red theme going on too. I wouldn't call it my favourite colour. Perhaps it's yours?

Green Thumb

Tuesday, December 14, 2010

Dear Olive,

I have a confession. I kill plants. Not intentionally, but more than a few of our green friends have met with unfortunate, untimely ends in my care. Recently, Dadda required for a commercial he was working on, a couple of potted plants that looked as though they were dead and being thrown out with the rubbish - he didn't have to go far to find them, he simply came into our backyard and took his pick of ours. Off the same job, Dadda brought home a few baby herbs and potting mix. We planted, we watered, we loved. And guess what - they grew!

It's Arrived!

Wednesday, December 1, 2010

Dear Olive,

Say hello to our marvellous new painting! Found on our doorstep this morning, a gift from my most amazing friend Mel. I love the scene and as usual, the way she's worked with colour is extraordinary. We love it so much Mel, thank you xx. (See more of Mel's beautiful work here.)

The Sleeping Arrangement

Thursday, August 19, 2010

Dear Olive,

We've tried a variety of sleeping arrangements over the past 9 months .. you in the cot in our room, you in the bed with Shane and I, and you and I in the bed and Shane on the lounge (Shane's least favourite!). We love sleeping with you. Love. It. But we started to wonder if we were disturbing you. You were certainly disturbing us, you've been waking up every hour or two for months. MONTHS. It's been absolutely, positively exhausting and at times I felt like I was drowning in my sleeplessness. It overwhelmed everything at times. Plus frankly, I'd begun to tire of having to sleep in awkward positions so as not to smother you as you feed through the night. (The entire night!). So, with trepidation, we moved you into your own room on Saturday. Shane and I discussed what we would do after you woke up the first time and we both decided we would try to put you back in your cot but if it was too much of a struggle, you would simply sleep with us. Indefinitely. The time came and I was up feeding you for the first time. I meditated on preparing myself for a bit of crying/all out warfare. I put you back down, walked away. Waited. Nothing. Held my breath. Nothing. Waited. NOTHING. What? I couldn't sleep for a long time, thinking as soon as I did you'd start crying. But you didn't. The time came around again and I was up feeding you. Again, pep talk to remain calm in the face of possible war. I fed you, put you back down. Walked away. Nothing. Waited. Nothing. Held my breath. Again - nothing. I couldn't believe it. And I am amazed to be able to say you have continued to happily sleep the entire week so far in your own cot in your own room (still waking up 2-3 times per night - but hey, a win's a win right). I've even heard you self settle a few times. This is a revolution. Well done you!

It's a work in progress, but we're having a lot of fun setting up your room.

My lovely friend Lisa gave me this Tara Marynowsky print at my baby shower which I love love love. See more of Tara's amazing work here.

Your owl watches over you at night.

The best thing about this whole moving rooms? I can read in bed again. Yay!
